A low-fat diet isn't necessarily a good diet for the skin - there are
good fats and there are bad fats. Flax oil (also known as linseed
oil) is a great source of Omega 3, (an Essential Fatty Acid that is
seriously lacking in most diets). It is cheap, easy to get hold of,
and very healthy.
 
Here is an extract from an online book on EFA's - maybe someone else
can find the URL:
 
   "The word "essential" means that we must get these dietary oils
   either in foods such as fish, grains, seeds or cold-pressed
   vegetable oils or from supplements such as fish oils, evening
   primrose oil, flaxseed oil, borage seed oil or black currant seed
   oil. Our body is not capable of making EFAs either at all or in
   sufficient quantities for good health. The EFAs are linoleic acid
   (Omega-6) alpha-linolenic acid (Omega-3). Omega-6 and Omega-3
   cannot be interconverted, that is, Omega-6 cannot be made into
   Omega-3 and Omega-3 cannot be made into Omega-6; therefore we need
   both Omega-3 and Omega-6 EFAs in our diet."
