I attended a conference session this summer on allergies and
breastfeeding and the gastroenterologist giving the session stated
that after dairy, soy is the second most common allergy causing food.
Eleven years ago when I introduced solids to my oldest son and he
began to have skin problems I was told that it had nothing to do with
the food he was eating. It is only recently that mainstream doctors
have begun to acknowledge the role of food allergies in skin
problems, or that what a breastfeeding mother eats can affect her
infant. The family doctor I have now completely accepts my
conclusions of what foods bother my baby and my older kids.
