Hazel,
The NUCOA brand of "real" margarine is sold in California. It is
distributed by GFA Brands Inc., P.O. Box 397, Chesskill, NJ 076216-0397.

The label's ingredients says that it "contains no milk or whey". I
don't know if its production line is shared with products that contain milk.

Personally, I try to eliminate all hydrogenated fat foods from my
diet (margarine, many snack food, etc). Hydrogenation (the process that
turns liquid oils into solid fats) produces fat components that are normally
only found in small amounts in animal fats such as butter. These components
are called trans fatty acids, and are implicated in increasing the risk of
heart disease. Unfortunately, these trans fatty acids are not listed on the
label. But, if you subtract the monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, and
saturated fat content from the total fat content, the remainder is the level
of trans fatty acids.
