Hazel,

I think it was in the sweetening agent in the calcium that causes the
problems for those that are anaphylactic to dairy. Either in the sodium
saccharine or the sorbitol. Can't remember which of these was causing the
problems for Meaghan
(my 7 year old who is anaphylactic to milk) when they increased the amount
they were using in the make-up of it. I was lucky enough to have a
pharmacist who phoned the company and got answers why so many of his clients
who are allergic to dairy and use it for a supplement were all of a sudden
having reactions. Thank heaven for those in the medical field who DO
understand what we go through. Even though I try to give my daughter the
vegetables and fish and fruits etc. that contain calcium I do, like many
parents, go through those periods when nothing you want them to eat is what
they end up eating. So I do still rely on the Life Brand Calcium Supplement
that we get at Shopper's Drug Mart here in Canada to help my daughter. Maybe
one day Canada will smarten up and realize that there is no good reason to
not be able to get orange juice or other items with calcium added. That is
why I end up going across the border to Michigan to buy some of my
groceries. I am luckier than most to be on a border city.
