Regarding Judy's post:
My understanding is that nobody really knows the truth about
melatonin's relationship to auto-immune disease. The research simply
hasn't been done yet. The best anybody, including health professionals,
can do is make educated guesses; thus the differing responses to your
question.
See "Melatonin" by Russel Reiter and Jo Robinson (published by Bantam)
for a good discussion of the issue. Jo Robinson is the one who started the
melatonin "craze" by her compilation and analysis of the existing melatonin
 research.
