Trevor,

In my experience, most of the supermarket chains in the UK stock rice
cakes. The major chains are: Sainsbury's, Tesco, ASDA, Safeway,
Gateway, ... Most of the London suburbs will have at least one of
these.

Additionally, many health-food shops also stock rice cakes and other
gluten-free bits and bobs. Holland & Barrett is one national chain
of health-food shops to keep an eye open for.

Boots the Chemist - you will find them everywhere - usually stock a
range of 'specialist' GF items, kept somewhere near the dispensary.
Many UK coeliacs get GF food on prescription, hence the proximity to
medicines. However, these items are quite expensive compared to the
normal, wheat-containing equivalents. Expect to pay up to 3.50 GBP for
a small GF loaf(*)... Rice cakes are much cheaper - about 0.70 GBP for a
packet of 15.

To help you spot these shops in the crowded high streets of outer
London, you may care to have a look at the following web-sites, which
carry the same corporate identity:

http://www.boots.co.uk
http://www.sainsbury.co.uk (might be .com)
http://www.tesco.co.uk (might be .com)
http://www.asda.co.uk (might be .com)

Hope this helps,

MPP
