Thank you for responding to my request regarding a "negative" result
for the antiendomysial test. Virtually every one of you said that a
negative result was what celiacs strive for; that it verifies that
you are maintaining a gluten free (or almost gluten free) diet.
I took your responses, including articles recommended by respondents,
to the specialist who agreed that, indeed, a negative test result was
good and that it did NOT indicate that she wasn't a celiac. While he
stopped short of criticizing the other specialist in his practice
(who said the negative result meant she wasn't a celiac after all and
could go back to eating gluten), he did send a letter to her GP re-
emphasizing that she was a celiac, that the test result showed she
was adhering to her diet, and that I had showed up in his office
"armed with an array of material from the celiacs on the internet."
By the way, I left the "array of material" with him to read. He was
reading it as I left. I hope he shares it with the doc who's passing
out the bad information!
Thanks again to you all.
