Hi Friends,
I recently asked about GF enteric coated asperin, and the "celiac"
effects of Martinelli's Sparkling Cider. I would like to say thanks to all
of you who responded! At the moment the weather has dried, and warmed up
to 80+ degrees here in So. CA., so I guess I will not need the cure for the
time being. :-D
Here are the responses for enteric coated asperin:
>In my experience, to have any affect on arthritis pain, you need somewhere
>around 800mg of ibuprofen at a time. It works wonders with my migraines.
>If you're taking less than that dosage, it won't make a dent.
********
> Have you tried prescription drugs? I have a history of never
>tolerating any NSAID for more than 2-3 days. I have used Lodine 400 mg.
>three times daily for several months without GI upset; the company now
>makes Lodine XL- a once a day version. I have switched to the 400 mg. once
>a day version and have been doing fine on it. My rheumatologist said the
>once daily versions have the potential to have a harsher affect on the
>stomach but to try it and see how I felt. So far, so good.
********
>if you
>have Giant Pharmacy available, they have a generic coated asperin that is
>GF. I had the pharmacist check for me, and when he couldn't find any
>written info, he called the company before he gave me the go-ahead. I've
>been using it for months and it does seem ok.
********
>Norwich aspirin is gf, I called last spring.Distributed by Chattem, Inc.
>1-800-748-2429. These are not enteric coated but they might make a brand.
NOTE: I tried this number and got a recording that I needed a special
access code to get in and speak to anyone. (!?!)
********
>How badly does the aspirin tear up your stomach? I switched, for the same
>reason, to enteric coated aspirin, and that started some very nasty
>intestinal bleeding. You might want to go very carefully with that.
********
>re: enteric coated aspirin, my wife, both a celiac and rheumatoid arthritis
>sufferer, has had great success with ECOTRIN for many years.
********
>I get a brand of enteric-coated aspirin from Kaiser-Permanente HMO pharmacy
>called Enterfilms Enteric Coated Aspirin Tablets for Arthritis. It is
>manufactured by Time-Cap Labs, Inc., Farmingdale, NY 11735. I called them
>and after checking with their consulting pharmacist they assured me it was
>gluten-free.
Here are responses to the Martinelli's question:
>Could it be the sugar in the drink that is bothering you. I had the exact
>same problem. I had a fructose tolerance test done and sure enough it was
>positive. I cannot have sugar of any kind which includes fruits with sugar.
>The apple juice just about did me in with the severe cramping and diarrhea.
********
>I don't know *why* (with regards to the Martinelli Sparkling Cider) but I
>do know that you are not alone! I am not sure if it is the carbonation
>(since I can't handle much in the way of fizzy drinks) or if it is
>because ciders are not filtered as much as apple juice. I do know that I
>react to all apple cider (sparkling or otherwise). Occasionally regular
>apple juice will do it to me but not often. I eat 1/2 cup of applesauce
>almost daily (with beneficial results), so go figure!
NOTE: I have given up most carbonated beverages for awhile now. Recently
I drank a soda and noticed I was quite gassy after. Perhaps it is the
carbonation after all? Martinelli's is _extremely_ fizzy.
Thanks again everyone,
Lynda
