Info from living so long:
I think all diagnoses relating to thyroid should involve a second or third
concurrence before any medication is initiated. It is believed by some that
the taking of a thyroid supplement further encourages the thyroid gland to
cease function on its own.
 
The thymus relation is interesting. Up to at least fifty years ago, some
obstetricians had newborns taken to x-ray for destruction of the thymus
gland.  Since my obstetrician was one of those, I have wondered about my
neonatal treatment. These obstetricians believed that the thymus gland
served no useful purpose. Interesting theory, BUT!
