Hi all,
David Walland asked what is available in the US. I'm from the UK, and have
lived in the US for the last seven years, I think we can find everything here
that is available in the UK, but the names might be different. There could
also be confusion in "translating" measurements.
American recipes tend to give measurements in cups, 1 cup is 8 fluid ozs.
The american pint is 16 fluid oz, the imperial pint
pint: 20oz (UK), 16oz (US)
cornflour (UK) = cornstarch (US)
icing sugar (UK)=powdered sugar (US)
demerara sugar(UK)=light brown sugar(US)
castor sugar(UK)=finely granulated sugar(US)
golden syrup(UK) =corn syrup (similar--not sure they are the same)
treacle(UK)=molasses
courgette(UK)=zucchini
aubergine(UK)=eggplant
Thats all I can think of, email me if you have any questions -- I will try to
answer. I didn't do any gf cooking in the UK so I can't help with the
Xanthum Gum.
