<I have CD, leaky gut syndrome, lactose intolerance, candida albicans (yeast
overgrowth), allergy to mold and some other stuff, and some arthritis. I've
been on a severely restricted diet for about 6 weeks, and I feel MUCH
better.>
Thanks to all who sent me encouragement, suggestions, and good wishes for
dealing with cd and its myriad foibles. I no longer feel so isolated. I feel
very grateful and wish you all the best.
Here are some of the comments, excellent suggestions, and a question
received:
Bean flour: great source of protein and delicious
Spices: try growing fresh in pots and using directly or drying and freezing
Oils: increase Omega-3 and decrease Omega-6
Website: check out Don Wiss http//www.panix.com/~donwiss/
and http://www.x54all.nl/~maxdess/health/gfcf/gfcf.html
(I haven't yet; I hope I got those right.)
Sweets: try pure maple syrup as a sweetener when things improve-one person
finds it the best tolerated-and vegetable glycerine
Yeast overgrowth-How can I get it diagnosed?: I read that it can be diagnosed
with a stool sample. In my case, I struggled with chronic yeast infections
and other symptoms for years. I found out I was feeding the yeasty beasties
their favorite food by indulging my sweet tooth. I was miserable while they
were having a party! Doctors recommend a three-part treatment: drug therapy
(Nystatin is supposed to be harmless-unfortunately I was allergic to it),
flora supplements (acidopholus to repopulate the good flora), and change in
diet (no sweets-YUCH!) Now, if I fall off the wagon and eat some cookies, I
get itchy for a few days.
