The following reminds me to continue to check ingredients and double check
sources.

On p. 35 of AGAINST THE GRAIN, Jax Peters Lowell says that Newman's Own
salad dressings are "said to be wheat- and gluten-free." I looked at an
ingredients list today, saw that they contain distilled vinegar, and called
the company. Mike Bradley (203-222-0136) said that the distilled vinegar
they buy cannot be assumed to be gluten free. He told me that their "Olive
Oil and Vinegar" (or maybe it's just "Oil and Vinegar," I'm not sure) had
only a trace amount of distilled vinegar (listed last on label) and that
many celiacs have sworn by this dressing. He recommended that each person
with CD consult their doctor before using these products.

He will be sending me complete documentation of their salad dressings
regarding gluten. When I receive it, I will post another message.

If anyone has found other inconsistencies in this book, I would appreciate
hearing about them.
