I've mostly been lurking cuz I'm new to newsgroups... I noticed not much is
posted regarding using supplements and natural medicines - it seems strange
to me for many reasons. My advice is to use amino acids to gain weight.
This is what body builders do because free form amino acids are
"pre-digested" protien and the body doesn't have to do any work to absorb
them. Even a damaged intestine can absorb the aminos. I always take
pharmaceutical grade aminos in a balanced formula (that means it contains all
eight essential amino plus a balanced amount of others) because like any
nutrient, too much of one without others that naturally occur in foods, can
lead to an imbalance. I particulary like the products by "Integrated Health"
and I suggest the "Amino Health" or "Amino Life" formula for stress. I could
go on and on about supplements - especially aminos but I won't. (No, I don't
sell vitamins for a living but I should!)
The reason I am so enthusiastic about supplementation is that it saved my
life - it's a long story starting with undiscovered wheat allergy and ending
with chronic fatigue with many kinds of autoimmune symptoms in between.
Just out of curiosity - did you up your coffee intake when you went on the
night shift? Coffee depletes your adrenal glands. These glands secrete
several critical hormones which mediate the immune system - including
cortisone and cortisol. Deplete those and your already overactive immune
system will really go to town. Also, someone mentions intestinal
overgrowths. This is a very likely condition when your intestine has been
damaged and it needs to be addressed. I recommend "Capricin" a form of
caprylic acid sold by "Probiologic". Good luck. Maria
