You know, I have a similar problem. It's called Fuch's dystrophy. The
lens becomes inflexible and hard to focus. When I was diagnosed, the doc
said it could be confused with cataracts. Makes you wonder....

I checked with KRAFT about the ingredients in their marshmallows. I did not
specifically ask if they were gluten free, but asked about what they were
dusted with, and what the modified food starch was made from.

Brandy, at 800-634-1984 said that in Kraft labeling "modified food starch"
was corn starch and if it wasn't corn starch it would say so (e.g.
"modified wheat starch" or "modified food starch [wheat]"). She said that
from the moment they begin to solidify, their marshmallows are dusted with
corn starch. [...]39_8Feb199620:01:[log in to unmask] 9602B 544 16 37_Re: another reason for blurred vision12_Gary [log in to unmask], 8 Feb 1996 21:40:23 -0400426_- <<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>>

Yet another reason for blurred vision, unrelated to CD. I have herpetic
keratitis, a form of herpes that affects only the cornea. It leaves the
cornea scarred, thus producing a haziness in vision. Luckily it affects
only one eye, so the other one does most of the work. And, of course, it
is runrelated to CD. [...]39_8Feb199621:40:[log in to unmask] 9602B 561 17 9_insurance13_Yvonne [log in to unmask], 8 Feb 1996 09:50:20 -0500507_- <<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>>

Hi everybody!

I was diagnosed a month ago with celiac disease. I also have type I
diabetes. Anyway, here is the problem: I am self-employed and cannot get
small business health insurance because I am the only employee :) I need
health insurance now more than ever. Does anyone have any suggestions? You
can write to me personally at [log in to unmask] Any advice will be taken

I do not know if anyone else has noticed this, but there is a strong and
growing tendency on this list to attribute almost every symptom or illness to
CD, which, of course is very unwise. It is rather like leafing through a
medical dictionary and identifying with all kinds of symptoms, but without
the ability to connect and assess them so that a valid diagnosis is reached
(unless, of course, one happens to be a physician).

I think it is wonderful, and very reassuring, to have an "instant" support
group like this one, but it is *NOT* a substitute for the kinds of informed
professional advice we get from our physicians; and I think they should be
given more credit than they sometimes get.

I do not wish to sound like I am preaching, but it is forty years since I was
diagnosed (I was twenty-five), and I have lived a healthy, gluten-free life
since. Although there are conditions directly associated with celiac disease
(DH is the classical example) I, nevertheless, feel safe in the assumption
that, generally speaking, my susceptibility to disease is probably not much
different from that of non-celiacs--providing, of course, I stick to my diet!

This, by the way, is not a medical opinion; just that of a layperson who
worries that the disparate bits of information that appear on this list
(usually insufficient to lead to informed opinion), may confuse, even panic,
individuals who post messages with the expectation of being relieved of their
worries.
