Hi guys,
I just got my celiac diagnosis last week. Yippee! At last I know why I
have been so sick for the past 3-4 years. In brief my question is this:
I am on a GF diet, eating only plain veggies and meat with no seasoning and
drinking whole milk, and having a bit of mayonnaise or butter each day
for fat content. Apart from having people following me around all day
trying to feed me with things they think are GF, it's been quite easy.
I am wondering if I should be cutting out milk for a few months. I am about
10 days into the diet and have lost weight (not a bad thing for now) but
my lower abdomen is still puffy (celiac symptom, I have always had it even
at 5'7 and 105 lbs..I weigh about 130 now). The dietician seemed to be
unsure about a lot of things (I had to tell her that not all vinegars
are safe) and said I should keep drinking milk. Is there a consensus
about early use of milk before your gut heals? Also, is mayonnaise really
safe as it contains vinegar but I am assuming that it could not be malt
vinegar (Hellmans brand). Thanks for any advice.
Lisa
