Has anyone out there contacted The March of Dimes or any other birth-defect
oriented foundation? They might be one of our best bets for getting
research funds and publicity directed at celiac disease, if we use the tack
that undiagnosed celiac moms would be more likely to have folic acid
deficiencies and hence produce babies with spina bifida.
Wouldn't it be great if as a routine part of every woman's gynecological
care they'd do the celiac blood test screening along with a Pap smear?
Once one is preganant, they do all sorts of tests for various birth defects,
so I should think that such a procedure might actually catch on if a
big-name organization like The March of Dimes used its lobbying power to
support it.
