This was a very informal poll, but the results were interesting.
I had 36 respondents. Thirty-four had low or low-to normal blood
pressure. Of the two individuals with high blood pressure, one mentioned
that her BP was low until she got on the gf diet, then her blood pressure
went into the high range.
Of the 36 respondents, 24 were confirmed celiac disease, 12 were "other"
-- either they suspected CD & hadn't had a biopsy, or overlooked
mentioning that they were confirmed.
One woman mentioned that anemia would cause particular physiologic
changes resulting in low blood pressure, & that's a good point -- is low
blood pressure a direct result of celiac disease or is it indicative of
any underlying auto-immunity?
Would you find low blood pressure in a group of diabetics or people with
Sjorgen's syndrome, for example.
But if we were doing a "patient profile", perhaps considering low blood
pressure teamed with persistent vitamin (B's, esp. folic acid) and
mineral deficiencies, (iron = anemia, zinc = white flecks on fingernails)
might lead to an earlier diagnosis of CD/gluten intolerance.
Just food for thought.
