I wonder if I might jump into the copyright discussion so Don Wiss doesn't
seem like the only one to consider the issue.
First of all, copyright laws are in existence just to protect authors from
the type of copying some are suggesting. The authors write for a living. If
you copy their literature and distribute it free you are depriving them of
their living.
The issue of coplying for personal use has come up. This is referred to as
"fair use" of a copyright. It is meant to allow a person to copy something
for their own , one time, personal use, for educational purposes, etc. NOT
to distriburte the copyright material to 1000 people over the Internet.
Copyright violations are serious, providing for $10,000 fines.
If you wish to copy one recipe why not write the author and get permission.
If they feel it won't damage them, they may agree.
Or why not modify the recipe and submit it as your own.
Awfully stuffy, I know but my wife is in the publishing business and I have
been a corporate communications manager and had to convince someof the most
important corporate executives not to coply materials even for internal use.
Any other comments?
