Many years ago I had my one and only rather disappointing experience with a
dietician (since then I have simply taken matters into my own hands). One
of the things that she said that has puzzled me over the years is that the
sugar cane is a grass and thus related to the wheat plant. Therefore
people who cannot tolerate wheat should not eat sugar. (BTW, I am allergic
to all gluten-containg grains, but not a celiac). Is there any truth to
this, or was this person just trying to get me to adhere to her
health-foodsy no sugar agenda in an underhanded way? This has bothered me
in the back of my mind for years now, even though I long ago rejected her
advice as quackery.
Thank you,
Ingrid Gordon
