Your doctor should be aware that diabetes occurs far more frequently amongst
celiacs than in the rest of the population. Your son's symptoms are amongst
those often seen in juvenile-onset diabetes. The NIH is sponsoring free
diabetes blood screening for first-degree relatives of diabetics (ask your
doctor for details, as he/she has to be the interface, or write to me
privately at <[log in to unmask]> for the 800 number -- US residents only). My
celiac son's uncle has diabetes, and even though this was deemed a
second-degree relationship, the NIH accepted my son for the diabetes screen.
