I have recently ordered gluten-free breakfast type bars that I think
can be energy bars. One is "granola bars" from Energy Foods. I ordered
the box in bulk (for about $16.50 for 44). They also come in smaller
quantities individually wrapped for much more, but I keep the box in
the freezer and it works well. These don't have fruits in them. You can
get the specifics from the company (calories, fat content, etc.). They
are tasty.
I also ordered several varieties from G! Foods in San Francisco,
after tasting them at the conference. These are hand prepared and are
called breakfast bars. They have no milk or white sugar, include a dough
of whole grains, nuts, topped with thick fruit fillings. they are sweetened
with turbinado sugar and dried light molasses. The varieties available are:
Apricot-Cranberry, Blueberry, Date, Fig, Pineapple and a mixed bag. They
are expensive as they're not offered in bulk, but delicious. They cost
$10/lb. for one lb. wrapped singles, or $8.50/lb. unwrapped- all plus
shipping, of course. I had the Apricot-Cranberry and Pineapple and was
very satisfied. They also sent a sample of "Fruit Squares" with no nuts.
Additionally, the Fall 1995 Lifeline magazine from CSA had a
recipe for "Diabetic Bars" which include raisins and prunes and make 20.
I haven't tried it, but it sounds interesting. (Also includes dates or
apples). If people are interested, E mail me and I will send to the list
if enough interest shown. Lynn from Omaha
