I cannot refrain from telling all those celiacs on the Internet about the
exciting news generated by the recent U.S. Celiac Coalition meeting held in
Chicago. A national coalition has been formed with the following goals:
provide professional education, make regulatory changes, provide public
relations, commercial liaison, create research foundation. There were many,
many talented individuals at this meeting. The enthusiasm was overwhelming!
Special thanks to Dr. Joe Murray and Dr. Alessio Fasano who were the facili-
tators who kept us on track in a most professional, efficient and friendly
manner. Also for their superb contributions to the planning and succes of this
meeting, the following individuals should be recognized - Sue Goldstein, Bob
Levy, Annette Bentley, Mike Jones, Jim Lyles. Forgive me if I have left out
the names of any key people - remember celiac disease can affect the thinking
process. Even though there were many talented individuals at this meeting who
volunteered for a variety of tasks, I hope that if your group leaders ask you
to contribute in any capacity, you will rise to the occasion. This is a most
worthwhile cause which will benefit all celiacs and raise the level of
  awareness throughout the country.
