<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>>
The listowners would like to mention two causes of a frequent problem --
when you try to post to Celiac and get an automated reply from the
LISTSERV refusing your post:
------------------------------------------
Cause One: Your address was changed (often just slightly) by your
internet provider, but you did not realize it.
------------------------------------------
Example: Old address: [log in to unmask]
New address: [log in to unmask]
The internet provider may make the switch without telling you (or you may
have missed the announcement). Your provider automatically redirects
incoming email from the old address to the new address. Therefore, you
continue to receive all of your email. But when you try to post, the
LISTSERV does not recognize your new address. The response that you
receive is that you are not authorized to post (i.e not subscribed).
Solution: Send a note to Mike Jones ([log in to unmask]) like this:
"It appears that my address has changed and I am unable to post to Celiac.
Would you please change my subscription from: [log in to unmask] to:
[log in to unmask] for Bill Elkus? I do <not> receive messages in the
digest format."
Usually that night, Mike will send a note to you that the old ID has
been deleted and that the new ID has been submitted to the List.
------------------------------------------
Cause two: The error processing software at St Johns notified Mike Jones of
repeated errors in sending messages to your ID. This resulted in the ID
being set to NOMAIL NOPOST.
------------------------------------------
Sometimes mail properly addressed to you does not arrive, due to
temporary downtime of your internet provider, full mailboxes, or other
causes. Some subscribers will cancel their ID but fail to signoff from
Celiac. These events cause error messages to be generated at St Johns for
each individual email which fails to arrive. To prevent St Johns from
being swamped by continual error messages, the ID is placed into NOMAIL
NOPOST status.
You will know that your ID is in NOMAIL status when it is not receiving
any mail for several days from the List (one day of missing Celiac posts
could be due to St Johns itself being down).
Normally, once per week, Mike will send messages to all of these NOMAIL
NOPOST users stating that the ID has been placed in this status. Remember
that while your ID is refusing mail, the notice of NOMAIL NOPOST status
will not be received.
Solution: If you noticed that you are not authorized to post, send to
[log in to unmask] the command QUERY CELIAC. If the LISTSERV
replies that the ID is set to NOMAIL and NOPOST, you can restore your mail
by sending the command: SET CELIAC MAIL to [log in to unmask] At
the same time, send a copy to Mike that you made this change. This allows
him to remove the NOPOST restriction.
The NOPOST option is only used to track those IDs set by Mike due to
bouncing mail. NOMAIL is a valid user option for when you are away
from your service for a few days and do not want to receive any
messages.
To obtain missed mail, send this command to [log in to unmask]
(modify for the dates which you missed)
/* Search for missing mail for the days 1 through 14 January */
// JOB
Database search DD=Orders
//Orders DD *
Select * in Celiac from 96/01/01 to 96/01/14
PRINT
/*
// EOJ
------------------------------------------
If you have any questions about a List policy, please send a new message
directly to Mike or one of the other Listowners, instead of posting
to the Celiac list. Do not use the REPLY feature of your software, or it
will go to all of the subscribers of the List. When appropriate,
the Listowners will summarize all comments back to the List.
