The article I used with my endocrinologist, whose clinic also a bone
screenig equipment, is an editorial by Michael Marsh
"Bone Disease and Gluten Sensitivity: Time to Act, Time to
Treat, and to Prevent" Am. J. Gastro. (1994) 89, 2105-2107. Even more
dramatic in that same issue is the article he's commenting on. He gets into
detail on the calcium balance as well --it's not just the lack of calcium
absorption.
Mazure, R. et al "Bone Mineral Density in Asymptomatic Adult
Patients with Celiac Disease" (1994) Am. J. Gastr.
89, 2130-2134. These 8 aymptomatic celiacs were turned up
and diagnosed through screening relatives of celiac first
with antibodies and then if positive a biopsy which was
"flat". 6 of the 8 were women.
