With all the talk on the teething biscuits and introduction of foods
and/or intestinal viruses playing a role in the onset of celiac. Cody
got his first teeth at 3.5 mths and wanted to eat. So I gave him
arrowroot and started him on pablum. My son at 6 mths got shigella
(shigellosis), an intestinal virus and was taken off all dairy products
to let his intestine "heal". It took about 1.5 weeks before his diarhea
ease up and we were able to start him on a bland diet of bananas, rice,
toast etc. The doctors started this diet even though his stools still
weren't normal but he needed some nutrition that he wasn't getting from
his clear liquid diet and pedialyte. He ate very bland for another 2.5
weeks until his stools were "normal" for Cody. He had chicken pox at 10
mths and started getting sick just over 1 year old when he had taken
about 2 rounds of antibiotics for ear and throat infections.

Bottom line is Cody had 1) early introduction of wheat (arrowroot
cookies), 2) Intestinal virus that possibly weakened the intestine and 3)
antibiotics. As well his mother, me, has Celiac and didn't know it.
With this combination and my readings through the list it seems that Cody
was a prime candidate for Celiac.

Any comments?
