I too, have been suffering from weight gain since diagnosis 20 years
ago. I have tired every popular diet since that time, done running,
walking, yoga and Nordic track, I continue to gain weight. I tried over
the counter diet pills because I never found a doctor willing to give a
prescription. I have even contemplated abandoning the gf diet. I am
distressed every time someone discredits my concerns with stupid comments
suggesting that I should eat less, eat less fats, exercise more etc. At
45 years of age, I know how to identify high fat and high caliorie foods.
I know I"should" not be so concerned with my weight but I am. I do not like
how I look or the negative health implications to being overweight. I have
never received any help or long term concern from the medical community.
When they cannot explain what is wrong with me they either lose interest or
suggest I need counceling. With dismissive treatment like that, who wouldn't?

I have a theory that my metabolism was "messed up" during the time before
diagnosis. My body has learned how to store food efficiently during
the years of malapsorption. Although I have had metabolic tests, thyroid
screenings etc. this has not been clinically proven. I tried the
exercise route in an attempt to speed up my metabolism, no success.

So, here I am, still waiting for the day someone can provide an answer to
the question, "Why am I overweight?"
