What vitamin and/or mineral supplements do other listmembers take?
Is the general consensus that once on a GF diet that vit/min absorption
returns to normal or is it always impaired? Every nutritional book that
I have seen mention celiac sprue makes note of impaired fat absorption
and particularly deficiences in the fat- soluble vitamins (A, E, D,
etc.) Why would fat-soluble vitamins be implicated and not
water-soluble? Does anyone take the mega-doses of the water-soluble
vitamins? If so, is there a noticable difference in your physical
condition? Are there specific mineral deficiencies one is more likely
to have with celiac?

I am trying to find a vitamin/mineral program for myself. Although
my height is normal, I am underweight (which doesn't bother me). My
hair is dry and brittle and either falls out or breaks off. My nails
are thin and weak. It seems I am always suffering from skin rashes and
breakouts (but not nearly as bad when I stay on a GF diet). I have
found that a zinc supplement helps with my skin's appearance (I have
read that a zinc deficiency can result in a vitamin A deficiency.)

So I'm wondering, do others find supplements necessary? If so, what
and how much?
