Harry,

The Search box you find when Thunderbird opens can be removed. You need
to go into the View menu (alt+v) to do it. There may also be a Calendar
between you and your messages, so you may want to turn that off too
while you're in the View menu. It's been a while since I did that, so I
don't remember where stuff is exactly. When Thunderbird updates, you
often have to go back into the View menu to mess with those settings.

I don't use Jaws very often nowadays. My experience, over the years, has
been that Jaws and Thunderbird go through periods of not playing nice
together. When one or the other updates, it isn't unusual for some
problem or other to crop up. Thunderbird is working fine with Narrator
and with NVDA. When I was still primarily a Jaws user and we were in one
of our Jaws-and-Thunderbird-are-clashing cycles, I would just switch
screen readers whenever I would launch Thunderbird.

Ciao
