One thing that I recommend is to see if audio enhancements became enabled during the update process. It can be a bit tricky to find but it's in Sound Settings within your speaker's properties dialog. Enabling audio enhancements can cause a variety of weird issues for screen reader users.

Amanda,
I feel your frustrations.
I am a blind hearing aid user, who needs to hear what the computer is saying.
I have 2 quality speakers connected to my Windows computers.

Every now and then, I check the Windows sound volume in the task bar near the clock.
Once upon a time, when I had a little vision, I could see the clock at the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

Well, this morning, the Windows sound volume was 94 per cent.
How did it get that high, I do not know.

I always set it at around 86 or 88 per cent.
And, every now and then, it's back up to 96, 98 even 100 per cent.

How to check your Windows sound volume?
Press, Windows key plus B.

I am interested in knowing what you learned.
Gaston

I have an HP laptop with AMD processors.

I had it sitting on the shelf until recently, when I had to configure it and transition from another laptop which was failing.

This evening, I allowed windows and other updates to install.

After I restarted, I noticed that the sound was affected, particularly with JAWS.

Prior to this, I had very robust sound and JAWS 2023 had no sound issues.

After the updates, now the sound will be normal and then the volume just plummets as I navigate. I do not have Voice assistant enabled.

If I wait a couple of seconds to navigate elsewhere, the volume returns to normal and then it plummets.

When I use a Bluetooth earpiece, the sound is stable. This earpiece only offers a maximum of six hours though. So will need to switch to a wired headset which is the only other alternative I have on hand at the moment.

At any rate, I would be curious if anyone has experienced this issue.

Of course, If I don't find a solution on my own or a suggestion from someone, I'll contact Technical Support.

Typically, since there's no one else here to bother with jaws being output through a laptop's speakers, I prefer it that way.

Thanks for any suggestions, workarounds or otherwise.

Kind regards,

Amanda Lee
