Well, a few nights ago, Gretchen had some car troubles. She was able to get
things worked out and got her car up and running again. However, Gretchen
has not made her car payment since last January. Thus, she has known it
might be repossessed eventually. In fact, Gretchen does not have a license
plate on the front bumper of her car and it is required in Colorado to have
a plate on the front and back. So Gretchen, whenever staying all night at
our home with her boys, would park her car in backwards so from the street,
a cop driving by could not see a license plate. We have security lights in
front and back of our home. The backyard light comes off and on by itself
do to the absence of light. The front light we turn on. I have noted in
the last few weeks Gretchen has been staying here at night that she would
turn the front light off. I, on the other hand, always went and turned it
back on. Sunday night, someone rang our door bell at 2:30 in the morning.
I guess that technically made it Monday morning. It was the company towing
her car away. They allowed her to get all of her things, the baby's car
seat and other such personal items, out of the car before towing it away.
She has no car now. Denver has a bus system but nothing to write home about
and Gretchen hates riding the bus. Gretchen's car was very important to her
and was part of her identity as it so often is with many people. In her
case, however, it was vital to maintaining friendships. So we will see how
things go now because she is going to find it extremely difficult to get to
her required drug classes, and other related classes, that her probationary
program makes mandatory.
