Hey, Matt,
The apostles were just 12 of the disciples (those people who were following
JESUS around to learn more about Him) whom JESUS hand-picked to be
especially close to Him. His "posse" as the kids would say today. Smile.
Technically, though, they weren't disciples yet but JESUS sought them out
Himself. But the main point is they were men hand-picked by JESUS to be His
closest followers. As you can tell from reading about them, though, there
was nothing intrinsically better about them than about anyone else which is
a blessing to the rest of us to know they were merely human beings like us.
