The Bookport Plus was a wonderful device. It was a Plextalk Pocket which APH modified by changing the synthetic voice into human narrated speech along with adding a few extra commands to make book navigation easier. You couldn't directly access and download books from online catalogs such as BARD and Bookshare but you could easily transfer those books from a PC or thumb drive to the device's SD card. It also had some nice recording capabilities, including being able to turn your recordings into a true DAISY book. I own a Plextalk Pocket but if I find a used Bookport Plus at a good price I might be tempted to purchase it. You can often find older, discontinued DAISY book players on Ebay but you need to read the descriptions carefully as some Victor products might be the original Stream or one of the CD players.

Good AfternooneaYou have probably been told this in a reply alredy. The Bookport Plus is no longer being produced or sold. I am not sure of the status of the other devices you mentioned. Pauline

Hi All,

Do we have any standalone book readers comparable to the Victor Stream?

My Stream died this spring, so I've been listening to books on my smart phone. This is fine, but I'm one of those people who likes a dedicated device with hardware buttons. I have tried buying a new Stream.
Unfortunately, HumanWare seems to be going through a quality control issue right now.

So I did some Googling. The Book Sense no longer seems to be on the market. I'm not sure whether the Plextalk and the Bookport Plus are on or off the market. And the Victor Trekk and Blaze EZ Reader are more machine and more money than I want to do.

What's out there? Mostly I'd like something that supports BARD and Audible books. Support for daisy text would be nice too, but the lack isn't a deal breaker.

Thanks for any wisdom.

Ciao
