What Harry would like to do (and I also) would be to use multiple letter 
navigation.
This, apparently, isn't possible from everything I've read and come 
across.
And I donn't believe accessing the bookmarks file is possible as they're 
encoded (unlike IE where you can get directly to them).

Here are a couple of things I do:

(1)  search for a previously used link via the history search capability 
under the history menu.

(2)  Create and maintain a .html file (which is my start page) placing 
frequently  used links there.

What I would like to be able to do -- but have not found a utility that 
can do this -- is retrieve my Firefox history and save it offline.

Hope that these at random thoughts provides someone out there with a few 
hints.
