Hi.
Jarte is a nice little word processor. It's easy to use and uses the
old-school menu bar instead of the ribbon. However, if you want to use
it to open newer Word files with the .docx extension you'll need to
install a Word compatibility program, which is free.
For people who can't afford Microsoft Office but who need a bit more
power than what you get with Jarte or Wordpad I would encourage you to
download the free LibreOffice suite at
www.LibreOffice.org
It's more along the lines of what Microsoft Office offers but the
program is not quite as screen reader friendly as Office. Still, it's
usable and it really does offer most of what you get with programs like
Word and Excel. It's similar to OpenOffice but they release updates more
frequently.
