Hello Steve,
First suggestion I would offer is to get in touch with your local Randoff Shepherd state program, and both NFB and ACB have national affiliates of independent business owners and/or randoff Shepherd Vendors. These sources can provide the most up to date information / answers to your questions.
Now, I have noticed both blind and sighted people using "Square ..." on their phones to process card payments and send receipts to customers via email or text.
There is the talking Vox food scale that is very good though it is a kitchen scale, I don't know how well it would hold up in say a deli that has a lot of traffic.
And I have no idea of the latest on cash registers, but there have been talking ones for at least 20 years.
Hope some of this is useful.
Best,
Terri

Subject: [VICUG-L] Looking for accessible Equipment or WorkArounds
Hoping for a range of good ideas:
I am a totally blind person with a long(ish) history in retail sales and I'm wanting to get back into the business. I believe I would need the following to be a successful merchant in today's world:
a food grade scale
a cash register
a credit/debit card machine
and a device that can scan smartphones
All of these devices must be able to be managed successfully by a blind person as well as a person with any level of vision.
I'm wondering if list participants have any suggestions and/or experiences with such devices. You could reply to me directly or on the list with any information and experiences you may have.
I currently use a Windows 10 computer and, of course, am open to any operating system that will fulfill my need for accessible equipment.
Thanks in advance:
