Harry,

Hmm, I've had a couple of Motorola phones. Some had problems heating up
more than usual. I didn't notice it only when it was time to upgrade. I
noticed it at other times too, like when it had trouble connecting to
the wi-fi network. One thing I've noticed about Moto G's is that they're
slow to update after the first six months or so.

Most of my other Androids have not had problems heating up, but I think
one of the Nexus phones did.

Your friend may want to try another brand, but it's hard to beat the
combination of price and specs of the Moto G line.

Good luck.

Ciao

Any electronic device which has some kind of computer processor in it like any phone may generate some heat but not enough to cause a fire. You might have your friend check power and battery settings to see if there is anything preventing his phone from running normally. All of my phones generate some heat when they are heavily used but the phones don't stay warm. Make sure all software is up-to-date.

He thinks and I do, as well, that everytime Android goes to a new version of its operating system, that that, is when this happens. Now here's another interesting part of this, his old z3play, is working fantastic, not a problem with it!!!
