Hi Everyone,

On my computer, I can click the control panel and power options. There is a link to choose what the power buttons do. When I press enter on this link, the first item that comes up is a link to change settings that are currently unavailable. When I press enter on this link and tab three times, there is a check box to turn on fast start-up which is recommended. I uncheck the box, which means that the computer will always do a full restart with the start-up sound. I find I have to do this in order for my braille display to start up. Press OK to save this setting. Hope this helps.

Diane

Subject: Re: [VICUG-L] Windows10 startup sound question

My experience is that, as of Windows 8, the startup sound mostly doesn't happen. I have a vague memory of going into the control panel (probably Hardware and Sounds > Sounds > Sound Schemes) to turn the sound on. I rarely hear it, though. I do sometimes hear it when I restart and when I update, but even in those cases, I only hear it occasionally.

As I write this, I realize I haven't heard it in a longish time.
