Dear Listmates,
It's now pretty easy to buy already-baked buns for hamburgers and deli.
Udi's is available from Whole Foods ($1.25 each in Northern California) or
Trader Joe's ($1.00 each), and Dr. Schar has started baking in the US,
thus, happily increasing availability. Although the store-bought breads are
good, it is pretty hard to beat freshly-baked, yeasty breads when you are
having company. It is also a little less expensive, particularly if you
value your time at $0.05 per hour. <grin>
One of the listserv members had a post that I followed to a web site with a
little different flour mix, and the results turned out surprisingly good
for deli buns, but there is a caveat. You can read all about it here:
http://bit.ly/GF_Bake . If you are concerned about shortened URLs, you can
use this instead: http://home.comcast.net/~vhdolcourt/gfbaking/ . Look
under the Breads section for Hamburger and Deli Buns. It is marked with a
red chevron (>).
As always, if you have questions or comments, please let me know.
