My thanks to Ana G, for this tip.
I went back in the vicug-l archives, and for a search subject I typed
firefox, and this is one of the emails that came up.
I tried it, in Chrome, and it works, absolutely wonderfully!
Now, if we could only read the percentages of the progress of a download!
how to download a file or program in Google Chrome
step 1. Find the link to the file or program you want to download.
step 2. Now, press tab and make sure your on the link for the download.
note--To be sure you are on the link to the download, use the up arrow
to read the text above the link or, you could use the tab and shift tab
keys to make sure you are on the link to download the file or program.
step 3. Now, since you're back on the link for the download, press shift
f10 and it will say menu.
step 4. Now, down arrow to save link as and press enter.
step 5. In a few seconds, the download dialogue box will open, and it
says file name, and it will read the file name.
step 6. Now, tab down to save button, and press spacebar.
