After you bring up the search box with Windows+s, you can just up-arrow to get to the list of categories. Right-arrow over to documents, press enter, and then type your search term. You can also just type the category directly into the search box, such as "documents: harry". This will just search for files on your PC. You can also check out the other categories, like apps, folders or settings.

This doesn't seem to work if you use the search box that comes up when you just press the Windows key. I think this may be known as a quick search.

To do a more aggressive search for files on your hard drive, I'd suggest the search feature in File Explorer.

Subject: [VICUG-L] windows search in windows 11, need help

     Hi all,

Using windows 11.

Here's the problem, when I press the windows key, and type the name of a program, sometimes it works, but sometimes, I get internet search results, and sometimes, everything goes dead, the screen readers don't talk.

I want to know how to make windows just search for things on my computer, and not on the internet.

Harry
