The Department for the Blind (IDB) is seeking
applicants for a position that will provide
assistive technology training to independent
living clients and rehabilitation teachers,
ensuring that clients are well informed about
various low vision and non-visual access
technologies that can help them to maintain and
enhance their independence.  This position was
listed on the “Brass Ring” web site this

will not be considered.  The range for this position is $ 48,464 
to $ 75,192.

Duties and responsibilities include the following:
· Provide on-site training and telephone
assistance to IL teachers regarding nonvisual
access technology used for independent living.
· Provide technical support and training to IL
teachers to help them independently enter case
notes, access department systems, and perform
their job duties.  Troubleshoot teachers’
technical problems and escalate problems to
other technology staff as appropriate.
· Obtain and review quotes for computers and
nonvisual access technology to be purchased for IL clients.
· Produce written reports and case notes to document the work 
performed.
· Provide individualized training to clients in
the use of nonvisual access and mainstream technologies.·
· Monitor client progress during such training,
produce written reports and case notes for
client files, and provide prompt notification to
rehabilitation teachers concerning client
progress and impediments to client success
regarding the use of nonvisual access and mainstream 
technologies.
· Make presentations and provide demonstrations
of low vision and non-visual access technology
to support groups, community organizations, and other interested 
groups.
· Teach technology classes during senior
orientation and other IL community based trainings.
· Provide technical assistance and product
support to blind or visually impaired persons
using mainstream software with nonvisual access technology.
· Maintain records and generate reports related
to problems encountered or solved and inquiries received.
· To the maximum extent possible, direct blind
or visually impaired persons to appropriate
sources of technical assistance to foster long
term independence of these individuals in the area of technology.
· Plan and participate in awareness activities
to promote the use of nonvisual access technology.
·Arrange for vendor displays and AT technology
displays/demonstrations in the IDB technology
resource center and in various locations around the state.
· Maintain lists of nonvisual access technology
products for the blind and visually impaired and their vendors.
· Upon request, provide product information to
consumers, family members, employers, IDB staff,
and other individuals/organizations.
· Monitor trends and developments with regard to
screen access software/hardware, refreshable
Braille displays, screen enlargement software
and hardware, digital audio recording and
playback equipment, and optical character
recognition systems.  Monitor trends and
developments in mainstream information
technology.  Make recommendations concerning the
use of these technologies to counselors,
teachers, clients, other IDB staff, and other 
individuals/organizations.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
