I use Linux. Mac and Linux are close enough that this should be your 
problem.  Did you navigate to an appropriate sub folder? If you tried to 
create a folder on the drive or the root level, you have to have full 
administrator's privileges. Mac isn't like Microsoft. This is one of the 
many ways that Mac provides more levels of security than Microsoft. 
Nothing can write to the root level without full administrator 
authorization. There are also quite a few other folders that have very 
selective permissions. These permissions are what prevent those drive-by 
downloads Microsoft is so famous for. Follow the explanation on this
