Yes, I'm sure that's true given that all my emails that go to the important folder have not been flagged that way by the sender. All I can say is that , gmail needs to get to know me much better! Perhaps an option to mark emails from this sender as not important might be something Outlook could add. I noticed in the drop down menu there is an option to create rules so perhaps this can already be done.

My understanding is that Gmail doesn't slap the important label on messages based on whether the sender indicated whether it was important or not.
