Full Time - Union position



The mission of the Helen Keller National Center
for Deaf-Blind Youths and Adults is to enable
each person who is deaf-blind to live and work in
his or her community of choice.   The Helen
Keller National Center is the ONLY center in the
United States that provides vocational training
exclusively to youth and adults who are
deaf-blind.  Employment at HKNC is a

We currently have an exciting career opportunity
available to join the Technology
Department-Outreach as a Senior Instructor in our Sands Point, NY 
location.



The Senior Instructor-Outreach evaluates
consumer’s adaptive technology skills and
equipment needs of adult learners who are
deaf-blind who are diverse with respect to
communication preference, learning style,
knowledge, computer experience, skills, and
culture.  This position supports the National
Deaf-Blind Equipment Distribution Program (NDBEDP).



Other duties include:



Provides training on a broad range of adaptive
equipment and telecommunications equipment
including: screen enlargement software, braille
displays, screen reading software,
note-takers,  iPhone, iPad and other devices

designed and adapted for deaf-blind individuals.



Recommends appropriate equipment purchases for
consumers and/or identifies and selects
appropriate equipment for consumers through
National Deaf Blind Equipment Distribution Program (NDBEDP).



Records progress and submits individualized
reports in a timely manner and related documentation as required.



Utilizes NDBEDP database for documentation of
training, reports, equipment distribution and
follow-up as well as all related paperwork.



Provides off-campus consultation, evaluation and
training through NDBEDP and CSP to individuals at their work site 
or home.



Travel required.



Hours & Compensation:



·        FT work schedule Monday – Friday (35 hours/week).

·        Competitive salary

·        Paid vacation, personal and sick time.

·        100% company paid benefits (no employee
contribution) including tuition reimbursement.



Availability:     Immediately

Qualifications

: Master’s degree in Deaf Education.  Special
Education, Education of the Blind/Visually
impaired, Rehabilitation of the Blind/Visually
impaired, computer science or related degree.
Knowledge of adaptive technology for blind and
deaf-blind individuals, computer proficiency,
knowledge of sign language and Braille.  Three
years teaching or rehabilitation experience with
individuals who are deaf, blind or deaf-blind preferred.
