Try just hitting save on the document. This should then ask if you want to
save it and potentially take it out of read-only mode, etc., and if you say
yes, you should be good to go.
Take care,

Subject: OT MS Word question
I'm working on my friend Patsy's computer, and some of her MS Word files
have gotten into read only mode. I have looked through all the menus that I
know of, and the unrestricted option is checked. I don't know of anything
either of us did to put these files into this mode. They are not password
protected. She is still using Office 2,003, Windows 7 and Jaws 17. Any
suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks and 73.
Harvey
