Hi Joseph, just letting you know that Icom id51a does not have full voice synthesis, all it does is tell you who kerchuned by announcing their callsign and only in dstar mode, not in fm. I have one. It will not tell you menu options, frequency or anything like that. I also have the th F6a and it does have different pitched beeps for certain things. it always beeps when memory goes past memory 0. Hello All,

 

Sorry if this has been asked before, I am new to this list. Besides the
partially accessible Baofeng, Tyt and other related handhelds, I know that
the Kenwood TH-f7e has beeps which distinguish settings making it possible
for a blind person to use the radio totally independently. My question is,
besides the Icom id51A which apparently has full voice synthesis, which of
the other handhelds by icom or kenwood are usable by blind people. I count
useable as:

1.      Emitting distinguishing beeps for on/off (eg low for off, high for
on) or when cycling to the first of several menu items.

2.      Full voice synthesis of menu options and settings of those options.

 

I am certainly happy with option 1, so long as menu predictability is
guaranteed etc.

My wishlist is as follows:

1.      2m/70cm,

2.      Wide band receive eg 01 to 1300 mhz,

3.      Rugged.

4.      5w output.

 

I did not ask about Yaesu but if you know a yaesu handheld is accessible,
please chime in with info about it as well.
