Vicki,
I have both the 1 GB DS50 and the DS620 8 GB and the audio recordings on my website were all recorded without an external microphone. The quality without a microphone is broadcast quality but an extern microphone will work fine. The quality of the microphone is going to make the difference in how good it sounds. I then used gold wave as a sound analyzer and digital editor. In fact, I just finished editing a 35 minute recording with gold wave that had 40 minutes of Beaky talking and whistling but I haven’t put it on my website yet because I want to record some information ahead of Beaky so people know what to listen for in his vocabulary.
