Thx, Albert

Subject: Re: [VICUG-L] questions about the o6 device

Hi all,

I got the O6 for Christmas, and let's just say I have now returned it and the gift-giver has gotten a refund. That said, I should tell you first what my goal was when using it and then why I returned it.

I put it on my Christmas list because I thought it would be very handy when trying to operate a phone with gloves on. I also wanted to use it with the BlindSquare app -- Holding the dog's harness in one hand, the small O6 in my other, and the phone staying in my pocket. So I had very specific uses in mind for it. The reasons I returned it are:
It turns out to be pretty hard to press the buttons while wearing gloves. They don't have enough tactile distinctiveness for someone wearing gloves of any thickness to distinguish between them, and to do some of the functions, you have to press the dial while also turning it. With bulky gloves and therefore more limited dexterity, this was a no-go.

Also, probably more relevant to the list in general, it only works on certain apps -- A pretty limited list as it turns out. I was thinking its button and dial would just be a replacement for the voiceover gestures and that it would work with any app. Not so. BlindSquare is not on the list of supported apps. The list is on the O6 website, and I clearly should have done more homework and looked at the list of supported apps before buying it.

The final reason I returned it is that sometimes, when I would press one button (not with gloves on), it would interpret my press as having hit another button. So it wouldn't do what I had told it to do.

All that said, I think if you want to use it as a remote for music playing or some of the simpler functions, it might work great. Just don't make the mistake I did and buy it as a substitute for Voiceover gestures. Hope this helps.
Catherine

Subject: [VICUG-L] questions about the o6 device

Hi all,

Well folks, today, I heard, a heck of a demonstration of the o6 remote control for the iPhone.

What a demonstration Robert Carder did.

I have the podcast, it's 25 minutes long, if anyone wants it, it's 11.8 megs!

This is a round device about the size of a gold medallian!

Is anyone using the o6? If you are using it, what do you think about it?

Also, does Apple still require you to type in your apple ID everytime you download or install an app?

They are working on a version of the o6 for Android touch screens as well. This is not just for the blind, it's a mainstream device!

the web site is

o6app.com

There's all kinds of info there, and, there are videos as well!

Harry
