Hi all. I use my iPhone 6 with earbuds plugged in 99% of the time, which
gives me easy and highly functional access to the number keypad while I'm on
the phone. I have no difficulty looking things up in the contacts list
while I talk to someone, or to selecting and activating #1 for this or #2
for that. I agree that trying to pull your phone off your ear to get at the
number keypad is rarely a good experience. Try the earbuds that shipped
with the phone, they work very well.

Thx, Albert

ello Brian,

I'm sorry you are having these problems. I am an iPhone user and have often
thought about some kind of backup option like a phone with buttons. This
might be helpful in situations where I was using an app on the iPhone, and
needed to talk with someone at the same time. Another situation where a
push-button phone would be helpful is when I need to navigate automated
menus and respond to prompts. Despite what many people say, putting the
iPhone in speaker mode doesn't always let VoiceOver speak numbers on the
keypad.

I have looked at low-cost options but most of the phones I find aren't worth
it, have too many restrictions, or require contracts. Some states offer a
free phone to blind people, but here in IL that is based on income rather
than disability. There is a company called Odine Mobile which is supposed to
offer phones which are easy to use, but their website keeps telling me that
the phones are either no longer available, or out of stock. There may be a
low-cost option, but I'm not aware of one. A few years ago there was a
low-cost accessible push-button phone from Spain, but it went off of the
market. I'm not aware of any widely used phone designed specifically for
the blind which is either in use, or readily available. You might want to
check out the resources about cell phones on the American foundation of the
Blind website.

I hope this information is helpful.

Thanks,
Dan

flip phone that they have. It has talk back on it. This phone is very
similar to the alcatel go flip phone. It has about the same funtionality
and size and feel to the alcatel phone. When I plug it in it makes a little
sound and when it's charged it will periodically will say unplug the power
cord energy saving mode. When I go in to weather it does not seem to give
me the current weather conditions. I can update the phone with no problem.
When I dial a phone number it does not sayeach number. The fm radio is not
in stereo in my headphones. I can't find any menu for changing the ring
tones. This phone is okay but it could be better I do hope that it will be
improved through updates. Somthing that I noticed is that if I try to call
712 numbers I hear a message this number is not in my plan I need to have
sellect shared calling I need to call 611 or go to a metro pcs store. 832
is no problem.
