I've been keeping up with the Dot braille smart watch, and I've even
contacted the company about beta testing.

The last time I had contact with them, they said they were starting a
large scale beta testing project with children from a school for the
blind. I don't remember which country the school was located in. they
had also come to an agreement with a Middle-Eastern country (maybe Saudi
Arabia) about using their technology in public places. Everything was
still in an alpha/beta phase.

My sense was that they're legitimate and that they're working hard to go
from prototype to functional device.
